Why Is Woods Called Woods?

Why is our school called Woods?

Woods is named Woods because when one of our founders was writing our charter application many years ago, he wanted a name that captured the essence of what he and the other founders hoped the school would become.  For this founder's family—whose family home was in the woods—the expression “in the woods” meant home; “woods” and “home” were synonymous.

The founders wanted this new school to be a place where students felt at home, where students felt safe and free to be their true selves.
