WOODS CHARTER SCHOOL FOUNDATION
WHO WE ARE
Woods Charter School Foundation is a dedicated group of parents and faculty who work to raise money to bridge the gap between our local/state funding and what it takes to make Woods Woods! Because Woods is a charter school, we receive no funding for capital expenses. These are big, giant expenses that the school has to cover, which means other areas of the budget suffer.

To help offset those budget deficits, the Foundation raises money each year towards an Annual Fund. Last year, donated dollars from school families, friends, faculty and local businesses enabled our Annual Fund to support:
- $290,418 for the Faculty Supplement ($26.9K more than ever before!);
- $51,952 in Curricular Materials and Student Consumable Supplies;
- $20,554 in Professional Development for our faculty;
- $15,510 in Teacher, Department and Director Support;
- $7,141 in Faculty Appreciation Events; and
- $79,037 in designated expenses supporting WCS.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
In order to meet this year’s needed support, our Annual Fund goal is $545,000 and we need everyone’s help to get there! Help comes in the form of time, talent and treasure and we appreciate your giving in any and all ways!

Please mark your calendars for these Annual Fund Fundraisers!
- October 13-17, Annual Fund Week: This is the week we ask each school family to donate or pledge to donate this school year. If every school family were to contribute $1,065 per student, we would quickly reach our target of $545,000. Yet, we understand that this amount is not feasible for many families. We encourage you to give whatever amount is within your means, whether it is $20 or $20,000!
- December 6, Into the Woods 5K: Our 5K is a family affair! Join us for a morning of running, walking or a mix of both as children, teens, parents, grandparents and even some pups conquer a fun course of trail and road around the school!
- December 11, McIntyre’s Books Shop-In Day: Right in time for the holidays, visit our favorite local bookstore and they will donate 20% of all purchases to our Annual Fund!
- March TBD, McIntyre’s Books Book Fair: McIntyre’s Books sets up shop at Woods with reads for all ages!
- April 17, Annual Benefit Auction: This adult-only super-fun night is full of music, food, drink, games, raffles and so much fun! It is our biggest fundraiser of the year and this year, it will be held at a new location - Ardenwood Farm. You don’t want to miss this one!
- Ongoing, Gift Card Program: This fundraiser costs you no money (zero!!), yet raises money for our Annual Fund! Look for details in the menu on this page.
Volunteer ------
Our Board is full for the year, but we have many other volunteer positions we are hoping to fill. If you are interested in serving, email Jessica Oliver at joliver@woodscharter.org.
- Restaurant Night Coordinators (Would love one each for Chapel Hill, Durham & Pittsboro!)
- Gift Card Program Coordinators (Entails picking up gift cards from Lowes Foods and/or filling orders at school.)
- Parent Book Club Coordinator (Help launch and facilitate a book club for WCS parents.)
