Seth Herschthal

Education takes place in the context of relationships.  That is my philosophy of education.  As an advisor and teacher at Woods, I commit to making sure each of my students feels known, needed, cared for, and able to help shape our community.  I view my role in the context of being a coach, guide, and facilitator.  I aim to help students learn to use their minds well and think for themselves.

In English Language Arts we will learn how to communicate more effectively through the exploration of four disciplines—reading, writing, public speaking, and discussion.  Utilizing myriad strategies I will meet every student where she/he is at and challenge every student to push her/his learning to a higher level.  We will learn from each other as we view student work together, grapple with ideas in writing workshops, and do small group work in stations.  What I want to share with my students is a passion for learning.

Along my educational journey I have made several stops which are listed humbly below:

Duke University (student), Camp Highlander (camper, counselor, head counselor), Colegio Bilingue New Horizons (teacher/advisor), Nature’s Classroom (outdoor educator), Camp Live Oak (director), Harvard Graduate School of Education (student), Blue Star Camps (director), and the Woods.

Carpe diem…
