Welcome to second grade!
I have been teaching for 17 years in both private and public schools, using both traditional and Montessori elementary curriculums (grades 1-6). My teaching credentials are in Political Science (BA), Elementary Curriculum and Instruction (MEd), and Montessori Elementary Curriculum (International Diploma). For the last 5 years I have happily taught second grade at Woods. I thoroughly enjoy integrating the Core Knowledge curriculum with the NC Standards, as I find this to be a challenging and enriching combination.
In 2003 I moved to Fearrington Village from Wyoming to be nearer to family, after much traveling and living throughout the US. I have 3 adult sons, 3 daughters-in-law, 2 grandchildren, and 5 cats. Peter, Sally, Mary Frances (age 11) and William (age 3) also live in Pittsboro. Both Sally and Peter work as social workers/counselors in the Chatham County School District; David has just moved to the Raleigh area and is continuing his medical practice in infectious diseases at Wake Medical Hospital while Magdalena is finishing writing a book in her fields of study (medieval symbolism and logic); and Steven and Stacy, having completed masters in biology are now also moving to this area. Stacy will pursue a PhD at Duke in mathematical modeling for infectious diseases. ( It should be an interesting sports season as Peter and Sally are UNC graduate school alumni.) It is a very happy circumstance that all of us are here together. The cats and I are delighted!
I love learning and teaching and hope to pass on a love of learning to each child. Please contact me about any questions you might have about the curriculum or my approach to teaching your child.
