Bonjour, tout le monde, et Bienvenue à ma page du siteweb de Woods!
J'enseigne aux élèves du collège de comprendre, de parler, et d'écrire le français, en plus de connaître et d'apprécier la culture francophone.
Pourquoi? Why French? Why Woods? Learning a language and helping others learn it are among life's most exciting adventures! This is especially true in a setting where plenty of time is allowed; I admire the Woods community for its commitment to start language instruction in the earliest years and to provide opportunities for students to develop true fluency, possibly earning university credit while in high school.
Many people associate French first and foremost with the beauty and musical quality of the spoken language. So true. French is also clear, precise, and rich; it has been used by many of the world's greatest thinkers and writers.
I have far-reaching dreams for Woods and for my students. I teach toward the goals of students being able to
communicate confidently with the world's hundred million speakers of French and appreciate their cultures, in person as well as through various media and technologies;
interact directly with French-speaking people, including travel with a school group, with family, or as an exchange student;
recognize the influence of French on the English language and use their knowledge of French to strengthen their command of English;
think of French as only their first foreign language, not their only one.
Midwestern by birth, North Carolinian by choice, and unapologetically Francophile thanks to many good teachers and friends, I am eager to begin my thirteenth year working with students, parents, and colleagues at Woods. Allons-y!
