I'm very excited to begin the 2011-2012 school year and my 4th year teaching at Woods! I graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from De Montfort University, England in 2001 and then completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education in Secondary School Mathematics from the University of Wales, Cardiff in 2003. I taught in the UK for 2 years before moving to North Carolina which I am very happy to call my new home. I love spending time traveling whenever I get the opportunity and am always planning my next place to explore.
As a mathematics teacher I feel it is extremely important to share my passion for my subject with my students by showing them how mathematics is everywhere in the world around us and the ways in which it is connected to their lives. My students will be given ample opportunity to use and apply their knowledge of mathematics by gathering, organizing, interpreting and communicating information.
I believe good problem solving ability lies at the heart of mathematics and we will use group project work and individual investigative tasks to help my students develop this ability which will be useful for the rest of their lives.
