Feelin' Good Mileage Club
I introduced the "Feelin' Good Mileage Club", which is a walking/running program for children grades k-4. It is used to turn recess into an exciting program that is fun and creative. I am using the program as means of incorporating a fun aerobic fitness into our children daily schedule as well as in our PE program.
Students walk on their own as well as several times each week. The children carry a mile marker card that are checked when a child completes a lap around the course. For each 5 miles the child walks he/she is rewarded "Toe Tokens" (a bright colored plastic foot to put on a his/her shoelaces) and certificates are awarded to children for goals reached. All awards are designed to be a source of encourgement, recongaition and positive image building. Side benefits include children learning personal responsibility, mathematics and record-keeping skills.
