Welcome to middle school math at Woods Charter School!

I am very excited to be back at Woods for my seventh year of teaching.  I will be teaching 6th and 7th grade math in middle school this year.   Again, I will be assisting in the Exceptional Children’s Department.  I earned a BS in Mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a MS in Mathematical Sciences from Clemson University.  Prior to coming to Woods I worked for IBM and substituted in the Wake County Public School System and at Woods.  I chose to teach at Woods, and for my child to attend here, for its community atmosphere and high quality education.

The teachers at Woods strive to provide a community atmosphere, one that is caring, supporting, nurturing, and safe.  Even in this community atmosphere we still learn many of the students' name and who they truly are as a person.  I enjoy observing the students throughout the year as they mature both physically, socially, and academically.  The students understand and embrace the idea of community while still maintaining their own thoughts and opinions.

Besides instilling the idea of community in our students, the teachers understand the importance of academics.  We seek the highest potential for our students.  To challenge my students and to prepare them for life are my goals.  I want them to think, desire more knowledge, and develop a sense of personal responsibility.  In order to accomplish a high quality education, teachers and parents must be partners and work together with our students.  We encourage and welcome parent involvement.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me in person, by email (ebarnes@woodscharter.org), or by phone (919-960-8353 ext. 240).  I am looking forward to another successful year.
