Course Overview: This course explores important works of American Literature with the hope that this exploration will deepen the students’ understanding of American culture.
Some of the major goals of this course:
- To help students gain a better understanding of the literary themes that have been important to American art and culture.
- To gain a better understanding of how writing can deepen, expand, and refine thinking.
- To draw original interpretations of literary texts that are both valuable and defensible.
- To develop sophistication in the ways these interpretations are shared with others.
- To expand knowledge of literary terms, vocabulary, and grammar.
Other goals that are vital to the course are described in the NC Standard Course of Study.
