English III

Course Overview: This course explores important works of American Literature with the hope that this exploration will deepen the students’ understanding of American culture.

Some of the major goals of this course:

To help students gain a better understanding of the literary themes that have been important to American art and culture.
To gain a better understanding of how writing can deepen, expand, and refine thinking.
To draw original interpretations of literary texts that are both valuable and defensible.
To develop sophistication in the ways these interpretations are shared with others.
To expand knowledge of literary terms, vocabulary, and grammar.
