  • HS Parents: Course Descriptions
  • 5/04/2012
  • Prior to Spring break the Course description sheets were send via the newsletter. There was a mistake on one of the descriptions - the Art History class should have read: "AP Art History will cover major art movements from the ancient world to the present day. Students will develop their visual analysis skills, learning to look at art critically, in order to understand its purpose and effects. We will also learn to analyze works of art within their historical and cultural context, examining the influence of religion, politics, patronage and gender. Finally, we will work to develop college-level critical reading, writing and discussion skills. An AP Test will be taken in May. Prerequisites are Eng II and Civics or permission from instructor. (AP) Test to be taken in May. "

  • Bricks for Tech-Brains!
  • 4/25/2012
  • Do you ever marvel at how much our world has changed in just the last 25 years, since the home computer was first introduced, and now in the last 10 years, how most of our careers have been altered significantly by their presence? This is a time when if you don't learn the skills quickly, you are quickly left behind- while those with computer technology skills speed away in the fast lane. Did you know our local Chatham County schools are actually one of the most technologically advanced school districts in the state, second only to Orange County? Northwood High was the first high school in the state to introduce the school supported 1-1 ratio (student to computer) with the mac book program, and Chatham County hopes to have a 3-1 ratio with updated computers in each and every school within the next 2 years. Woods Charter boasts the highest scores in the county, and we have some of the most active volunteers around. Our children benefit from small class size, excellent teachers, a supportive administration, and great community in general. Imagine what our student body could do if they had the same access to Technology as our local public high school? Woods is a charter, therefore we do not get the same funding as other public schools, but we do have the Woods PTSA, along with the Foundation, and we do have an incredible base of families who strive to keep this school the jewel it has become. Our amazing technologies director, Christopher Beeson, has been awarded a grant from the PTSA to pursue I- Mac "notebooks" for the students. This grant will not cover the full cost, and that's where you come in...and your friends, family, neighbors, etc. 100% of the proceeds from an engraved Brick purchase will go directly to the technology budget, through this PTSA brick sale. That means this is the time to buy that brick you've been thinking of- and know that your money goes directly to the most cutting edge program we can offer. Buy a brick in memory of a loved one, in honor of a student, teacher, community member, and in support of a program well worth its weight in Bricks! The bricks will all be displayed at the front of the school, on a path to the left of the main entrance, designed by the outdoor spaces committee. Help pave our Students path to a successful future in the Global World, and at the same time you honor someone with a lasting engraved message! What a deal, folks! Order now and Spread the word!
