The Arts at Woods

The job of the artist is always to deepen the mystery.

THE ARTS at WOODS

In any context, the Arts are among the most profound ways to elevate the human spirit.  Visual, musical, literary, and performing arts are unique in their power to transform the human experience, to call out to – and speak to ‐‐the inner lives of us all. This makes the integration of the Arts in the educational community vitally important. The Arts have the ability to create “seamlessness” in perceived boundaries among people, communities, and nations.
Being passionate about the Arts translates to being passionate and energetic in life!

Tell me, I forget, show me, I remember, involve me, I understand.
~ Carl Orff

At the very core of our mission, Woods Charter honors and celebrates the gifts every culture and individual has to offer.  We consider the ARTS to be a vehicle for students to develop their appreciation for a larger world.  We believe the arts provide numerous opportunities for students to develop their skills and interests, while inherently building self-confidence, and introducing alternative ways of thinking.

Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.
 ~ Thomas Merton

As educators, we at Woods value creativity, collaboration, diversity and vision. We are passionate about fostering a greater sensitivity to the aesthetics of our world and are interested in creating a rich repertoire of experiences on which students can draw for the rest of their lives.  We strive for a balance of true instruction and learning, while at the same time, offering students the chance to freely express themselves.

The artist sees what others only catch a glimpse of.
~  Leonardo Da Vinci
