5th Grade Science

 

Fifth Grade Science

The materials covered in Science this year are based on the curriculum from the Core Knowledge Sequence and the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Fifth grade students are required to take an end of grade (EOG) science test.

Here is a brief overview of the content we will learn about this year:

Earth sciences:     Understanding Weather and Climate

                          Landforms and Earth's resources

                          Forces that shape the earth

Physical Science:   Properties of Matter and Energy

                          Understanding Force and Motion                      

Chemistry:  Matter and Change

                          Atoms, molecules, and compounds

                          Elements

                          Chemical and Physical Change

 

 Life Science:        Characteristics of Living Things

                          Living things and their environments (ecosystems)

 

Grading Policy

The yearly grade will reflect the average of the 3 trimester grades.  

The trimester grade consist of the following.            

    40% - Tests/ Major Projects

    20% - Quizes/ Labs

     20% - Class work

    10% - Participation

     10% - Homework

    

*A student may make up any work missed due to an excused absence.  When absent, it is the student’s responsibility to find out what work was missed.  Make-up work should be completed in a timely manner.
